Privacy Policy
Pangolin Pages is built to need as little of your data as possible. This page explains what happens to information when you use it.
Who we are
Pangolin Pages ("we", "us") is operated by Nomad Latitudes Limited, a company registered in England and Wales (company number 17286397), with its registered office at 71-75 Shelton Street, Covent Garden, London, WC2H 9JQ, United Kingdom. Where we store account data, we use Supabase as our data processor (see “Accounts & syncing” below). For any privacy question, contact hello@pangolinpages.com.
What we store, and where
When you use the app, the following are saved locally in your browser (using your device's local storage) — not on our servers:
- Your reading wish list and "already read" / passport stamps.
- Your region preference for physical-book shops.
- Any community reviews you write.
Because this data lives on your device, it stays between visits on that device, isn't linked to your name, and can be cleared any time from the app's settings ("Reset my library") or by clearing your browser storage.
Location
If you tap "Locate me", your browser asks your permission and provides your approximate position to the page so it can suggest nearby destinations. This happens in your browser; we don't receive, log, or store your location.
Camera
If you open the barcode scanner, your browser uses your camera to read a book's barcode, in your browser. We don't upload or store camera images. Once a barcode number (ISBN) is read, it is sent to the Open Library to look up the book's title.
Accounts & syncing (optional)
Pangolin Pages works fully without an account — in that case everything stays in your browser as described above, and we hold nothing. If you want your wish list and literary passport to follow you across devices, you can create a free account. Here's exactly what that involves:
- How you sign in: by "magic link" — you enter your email address and we send you a one-time link to sign in. We do not use or store passwords.
- What we store: your email address, and the reading data you choose to save (wish list, "read"/passport stamps, and any reviews you post). Nothing more — no names, no tracking profile.
- Why: so you can log in on any device and see the same library. The legal basis is your consent and providing the service you asked for.
- Where: this data is stored by Supabase, our database and authentication provider, acting as our data processor on our behalf, on servers in the UK/EU region.
- How long: until you delete it. You can delete your account and all its data at any time from within the app, or by emailing hello@pangolinpages.com.
We never sell account data or use it for advertising.
Third-party services
Some features rely on outside services, which receive limited technical information (such as your IP address) as a normal part of loading their content:
- Fonts are served from our own site (self-hosted), so no font request is sent to Google or any third party.
- Supabase — provides account sign-in and stores your saved library if you create an account (see “Accounts & syncing”).
- Open Library (openlibrary.org) — receives your search terms and any ISBN you scan, to return book results and covers.
- Booksellers (Amazon, Waterstones, Bookshop.org, Barnes & Noble, and the online stores) — when you click a Buy or Read link, you leave our site and their own privacy policies apply. Some Amazon links are affiliate links (Amazon Associates), which means Amazon may attribute a purchase to us; this is handled by Amazon on their site under their policies.
- Our web host may keep standard server logs (e.g. IP address and page requested) for security and reliability.
We don't control these third parties; please review their policies for how they handle data.
Cookies & analytics
We use Google Analytics (provided by Google) to understand how visitors use the site — but only if you agree. When you first visit, a cookie banner asks for your choice:
- Until you select Accept, no analytics runs and no analytics cookies are set.
- If you Accept, Google Analytics loads, sets cookies on your device, and collects usage information (such as pages viewed, approximate location, and device/browser type) so we can improve the site. Google processes this data under its own terms — see policies.google.com.
- If you Decline, analytics stays off.
You can change your choice at any time using the “Cookie settings” link in the footer. Aside from optional analytics, the app doesn't set advertising cookies; it uses your browser's local storage (described above) to remember your books.
Children
Pangolin Pages is a general-audience reading tool and isn't directed at children under 16. We don't knowingly collect personal data from children.
Your rights
Because we don't hold your personal data on our servers, most of it is under your direct control on your device. Depending on where you live (for example the EU/EEA, UK, or Switzerland), you may have rights over any personal data a service holds about you. If you have an account you can access, correct, export or delete your data at any time — deletion is available in the app, and we can help at hello@pangolinpages.com. If you're in the UK, you also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk.
Changes
We may update this policy as the app evolves; the "last updated" date above will change accordingly.
